Based on 250 reviewsShinpachi Shokudō Osaka Nipponbashi is widely appreciated for its fresh, flavorful grilled fish, particularly the mackerel and Atka mackerel, which diners often praise for their quality and value. The restaurant’s casual, self-service format, enhanced by electronic ordering in multiple languages, offers a convenient and efficient dining experience. Customers note the affordability of both food and drinks, including reasonably priced beer. The intimate setting with a smoky kitchen aroma adds to the authentic atmosphere. While the grilled fish remains the standout, the menu offers a variety of traditional Japanese set meals. Overall, the establishment is regarded as a great choice for those seeking affordable, delicious Japanese teishoku and grilled seafood in Osaka.
The food was fresh and delicious. They have mini iPads to order from (you can choose your preferred language) and the food comes out fairly quickly. Everything was pretty inexpensive so we tried a bunch of dishes and sides. Paying is through a kiosk so there is minimal interaction with staff. A beer was about a dollar. I'd go back again as their mackerel was so tender.
I walked past this restaurant and looked at their menu with their samples on display. I told myself I have to try it. This place is wonderful for those who wanted to try Japanese traditional dinner and breakfast. There aren't many tables and the smoky aroma from kitchen is appetizing. Definitely a place to try for the Japanese grilled fish lovers. English menu is available from the electronic ordering system.
I dropped by on a whim, craving some grilled seafood, and decided to try the char-grilled whole Atka mackerel meal for 1,386 yen. I was pleasantly surprised by how big the fish was for the price! It was grilled to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and really hit the spot.
The grilled fish was fantastic, great value too. We ordered Akta mackerel, toothfish and pickled red fish. We added side dishes. Simple, natural taste. It is a self service place with English menu, great that waitress doesn’t speak English. For some reason, we left our wallet and bag, we came back and the lady passed them back to us with a smile. Oh ya…190 yen for glass of asahi beer? Highly recommended. We just keep coming back to try as many as we can.
We ordered their mackerel set and Atka mackerel (hokke) set... Their mackerel set was perfectly grillled. But somehow their hokke a bit not to what I remember it's unique taste.. But still delicious. We refereed mackerel set as it was amazing.. Perfect.
We had an excellent experience here! The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere felt warm and authentic, and the service was quick and friendly. A great spot in Osaka to enjoy a satisfying and traditional meal. Highly recommend!
The set bento is worth so much for the value, and scrumptious, tea ice drinks are included! The beer only costs 190/bento. We ordered set salmon/ salmon belly and the pork set- the salmon is above par, super worth to try and will come back again
I have seen this restaurant since the last year I visited Osaka but I haven't tried it before. The year after, visited Osaka again, I decided to give myself the chance to try. At first, it seemed hard to make an order but the tablet has an English option that helps me a lot. I fell in love with this place. The fish menu is well cooked and tasty. I have tried grilled beef as well. And YES, I love it. The price is reasonable. They accept credit card payment.
